Our Irish Setters

Suri and Josephine

The Irish Setter is the best-known and most popular representative of the British pointing dogs. This popularity stems not only from its outstanding suitability as a spirited, lively fowling dog and its temperament, but above all from its magnificent, elegant appearance. Its nobility, temperament, and unique mahogany-red, golden-shimmering coat place it among the most beautiful hunting dog breeds in the world. Its original colors were white and red. These old white-and-red varieties were bred alongside the solid-colored ones. The Irish Setter was particularly promoted at the beginning of the 17th century by the Lords de Freyne. Bred within the family for seventy years, they passed down the breed's old name: "Modder Rau," the red dog. The Irish Setter is a proud, self-assured personality that demands attention. Its natural disposition allows it to recognize its rightful place in "its pack." Affectionate, alert, and good with children indoors, he is a spirited and loyal companion outdoors. He possesses great speed, an excellent sense of smell, and great stamina in all terrains and climates. It is a long-lived breed, often reaching 16 to 18 years of age. The Irish Setter is a very affectionate, intelligent, and child-friendly family dog.
